"Love is" comic collection is known world over. These heart-warming illustrations have gained kindly feelings of millions of people because of their innocence and simplicity. Love is comics were created by New Zealand artist Kim Grove in the late 1960s. The beginning to the strip of amusing illustrations was laid by a couple of love notes for her fiance. Love is… illustrations were published not only in newspapers, but the most popular were printed on greeting cards and souvenirs as well. All "Love is..." illustrations have the same design. The beginning of a phrase that gave the name to the whole collection of comics "Love is…" is placed in the upper left-hand corner of the picture. In the middle of the panel there is a lovely drawing. And under the picture there is the remainder of the phrase whose meaning is reflected on the drawing. There are 2 main characters that appear on every picture – a pair of sweethearts, a male and a woman. They look like infants, but nevertheless, they represent adults at different stages of romantic relationship – from the day they met through being a boyfriend and a girlfriend to a married couple having children that show up on the drawings every now and then. Amidst other personages that are pictured from time to time there are also parents of a male and a female. The introduction of different members of the family assists in reflecting all sides of love. The main characters are usually together, but nevertheless, every now and then they appear alone. When one of them is thinking about the other, the face of his partner may appear in a dream balloon, on a photo, or a screen saver. There are also several pictures where other men or women are showed. A distinguishing feature is that these people look absolutely different than the main personages. One more minor character is a dog that symbolizes common house and home comfort. Furthermore, the majority of the items on a drawing are heart-shaped. It is a symbol of the comic collection's major theme. Today's "Love is" comic pictures, as seen in newspapers and magazines worldwide, are available in an online archive. It's kind of an effort to stretch Valentine's Day romance throughout the year. Individual cartoons become e-mail greeting cards and may be sent free of charge to a special friend.
